The Events

The Do Lectures is a tiny event that started out in a quiet corner of West Wales that inspires you to go and do amazing things.

Do Wales spring 2012

It will be, in the proper sense of the word, a remarkable weekend. The mix of speakers will be as eclectic as ever— from business to technology, from sport to design, from saving the planet to saving time, from the famous to the unknown, from the inspirational to the downright practical.

At The Do Lectures you’ll gain practical tools, new ideas, and a different point of view. Speakers talk about their lives, how they think, what they’ve changed, or even what they hope to change.

The event takes place at the fforest camp, near Cardigan in West Wales. It is set in 200 acres of rolling woodland, pastureland and meadow. The accomodation is in shared tents, we provide all attendees with Halti sleeping bags and a insulated futon. You can find out more about fforest at www.coldatnight.co.uk. And it does get cold at night, so come prepared to spend a lot of time outdoors in this amazing Welsh landscape.

The aim is to spread the knowledge as much and as far as possible. My feeling is that knowledge needs to be shared. Ideas need oxygen. Good ideas spread quickly. Great ideas spread even faster. I believe in ideas.David Hieatt

Do USA 2012

People

I don’t know if there is a formula for doing The Do Lectures. I somehow doubt it. Some of the magical things that have happened were never planned. But there are a couple that always have to be there. And they are the specialness of the people and the place. I knew the moment I met Duke that he got this crazy thing called The Do Lectures. He could see the magic. And for Clare and myself, we agreed that if we were ever to do something over in America it would have to be with Duke.

All we had to do was to persuade Duke. I am not sure how we did it, but in a weak moment he said yes. So Duke is the curator of Do USA. He will bring the eclectic bunch of people together. It’s a skill just like that of the great parfumiers of Paris: A little of this; A little of that; A touch more of this. Until, it’s right. I can´t wait for Duke to announce the 2012 speaker list to the world.

Place

We have learned the importance of place from The Do lectures. Its beauty needs to remove you from your day to day. And the award winning bio-dynamic organic gardens of Anna’s and Gary’s Campovida will certainly do that. The old hop barn is going to be the magical setting for all the talks. And, Mimi is going to be the chef cooking the local food (all the way from the garden) that is going to help fuel the talk after all the talks. Helped by the odd glass of wine and a little music.

The idea is a simple one— that people who Do things can inspire the rest of us to go and Do things, too. So each year we invite a set of people down here to come and tell us what they Do.David Hieatt
